Des ailleurs sans lieux / Spaces of otherness explores the emblematic figure of the trio from a central choreographic and dramaturgic point: the breath and its rhythmic and vibratory abilities.
The vocal cords of the three dancers echo the strings of the cello, a guest in this vibratory oratorio: together they establish their own codes, dialogue with each other. Then rises a keen human landscape, sharp, cutting, breathing its own revolt, its own pleasure, its relationship with the other. The use of the breath is pushed to its limits.
And yet, strange experience of the otherness, of the sharing of the physiological intimacy of the performers, this evocation of the breathing humanity suddenly comes to remind us of the memory of our own breathing. And of the use we actually make of it: we live like we breathe.
This performance was awarded the First prize at (Re)connaissance 2014, in Grenoble, France (International jury).
Sine Qua Non Art is an encounter between two dance artists, Christopher Béranger and Jonathan Pranlas-Descours, each with a diverse career in dance, whose interests to further interdisciplinary research and collaboration as well as choreographic practices brought them together to form the company in 2012.
In their work they show a particular interest to tracks, marks written in the bodies, witnesses of the body’s memories of past experiences. Consequently the choreographic works tell the story of these bodies and their trajectory in their cultural and social context, and developing Crossings - their own specific choreographic methodology.
Christopher Béranger was a soloist at CNN Ballet-de-Lorraine from 1992 to 2013. His atypical career within the structure has given him the experience and skills to work with more than sixty choreographers including Russell Maliphant, Lia Rodrigues, Michèle Noiret, Karole Armitage, Odile Duboc among others. Parallel to choreographic pursuits he is involved in many cultural actions and outreach events and in acknowledgement of the quality of this work he has received the Christophe Béranger received in 2003 insignia of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters for his achievement in the art fields. He also is assistant to choreographers such as La Ribot, Mathilde Monnier, Faustin Linyekula.
Jonathan Pranlas-Descours studied visual arts, history of arts, and then theater/directing at the Université d’Aix-Marseille, he also performed in various companies throughout Europe performing for numerous choreographers including Mathilde Monnier, Sasha Walz, Romeo Castelluci, Hans van der Broek and others. Between 2006 and 2010 he studied dance at P.A.R.T.S (Performing Art Research and Training Studios) in Brussels. He continues his work both as a performer in Belgium, Germany, and France with various choreographers and a choreographer starting his first works, as well as teaching: Ménagerie de Verre and University of Paris 8, Paris; CCN Montpellier and at CCN Ballet-de-Lorraine
